Your skin is the largest and one of the most important organs in your body. It protects the organs inside your body from injury, infection, heat and ultraviolet light from the sun. Skin also helps control your body temperature and gets rid of waste materials through your sweat glands. Additionally, it also makes Vitamin D and stores water and fat.

“Photoaging” is a term that describes damage to the skin caused by intense and chronic exposure to sunlight. The effects of prolonged UV radiation on the skin are related to the intensity and duration of UV exposure.

Avoiding intense, chronic exposure to UVA/UVB light – for example, avoiding activities such as sun bathing – is one important way to protect against photoaging.

Photoaging can be minimized by avoiding sun exposure between 10 AM and 4 PM. If you cannot avoid sun exposure between these peak hours of high UV intensity, use sun-protective measures such as wearing a broad-brimmed hat and long-sleeved clothing.

The most effective way to protect your skin from aging is incorporating a broad-spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen with a SPF 45 into your daily skin care regime. An important point to remember: Even on cloudy days, 80 percent of the sun’s UV rays reach the ground. A cloudy day is not a reason to skimp on sunscreen.

Studies show that we receive 80% of our sun damage by age 18. Sun damage can be seen as textural changes, hyperpigmentation (brown spots), freckling, wrinkles and enlarged pore size.

Affordable Laser and Cosmetic Clinic offers a special computerized imaging system that shows the amount of sun damage to your skin. VISIA provides breakthrough digital high-resolution photographs and computer analysis of the skin’s complexion, enabling clients to discover what issues may be causing additional signs of aging.

visiaThe skin is analyzed into the following categories: brown spots; pores; porphyrins (bacteria beneath the skin that causes acne, redness and thereby uneven tone to the skin); wrinkles; evenness; and UV spots. By measuring the changes to your skin, this system allows us to develop a skin care regimen personalized for your individual needs.

Treatments may include IPL/Photorejuvenation, Photodynamic Therapy, Microdermabrasion, Chemical Peels, and home skin care products. Once treatments have been performed we can then use the VISIA system to document the progress, actual changes and improvements to your skin.
